Interior Design, professional bachelor degree on Sint-Lukas campus, Brussels and Sint-Lucas campus, Ghent

With the ‘Interior’ training cluster, LUCA offers students the opportunity to develop their skills with a view to a career in the world of interior design. Our students enter the sector as fully developed designers able to create interiors, spatial installations, furniture and objects…

Spatial design lies at the heart of the Interior Design degree course. A thorough technical and cultural training and a high degree of practical experience go hand in hand. The course focuses on the design of interiors, spatial installations, scenography, furniture and objects.

Students will explore all these areas, enabling them to orient themselves within the profession according to their personal profile.

By hands-on doing you will discover which design methods and fields of activity suit you best. The singularity and identity of each student form the basis for becoming a (self) critical, enterprising and authentic designer. Regardless of whether you decide to immediately start working after your studies or continue studying, the creative, communication and technical skills you will acquire plus your self-knowledge and drive are important assets. At LUCA, you will develop these assets through constant interaction between the head and the hands – thinking and doing – supported by tutors with practical experience in a working environment where exchange and enjoyment are central.

Course structure

The professional bachelor in Interior Design is a three-year, practically oriented degree course. You will learn how to design by brainstorming, discussion and critical thinking. Above all, you learn to do. You will make scale models and prototypes; you will draw sketches, plans and 3D visualisations. You will conduct research into materials and colours. You will go on study trips and company visits and you will participate in intensive workshops. You will do an internship or spend one semester studying abroad. Together with your fellow students, you will build your graduation exhibition. Doing all this will allow you to discover which design methods and work domains suit you best.

The singularity and identity of each student forms the basis for becoming a (self) critical, enterprising and authentic designer. Aside from the creative, communication and technical skills you will acquire, your self-knowledge and drive are important assets. In the Interior Design degree at LUCA, you will develop all these assets through constant interaction between the head and the hands – thinking and doing.

Broad training with a personal path

The bachelor in Interior Design at LUCA is the only course in Flanders that trains you to become a spatial designer of all trades. Via a wide variety of design assignments, you will taste different work domains and get to design interiors, spatial installations, events, furniture and objects.
Thanks to the diversity of assignments, you will be able to orient yourself in the field so that you can start out as a designer with your own identity, a polyvalent, spatial designer able to function across the entire interior design spectrum.

A dynamic environment

Interior Design is more than a training course; it is a mental and physical workplace where ideas and dreams are conceived and realised. It is learning environment where people, ideas, experimentation, tools and application unite and where tutors closely monitor and encourage you to invent your own creative solutions. Above all, it is a place bursting with creativity, enthusiasm and design pleasure.
