Jasmijn Lootens: The Hybrid Cellist - An Electro Acoustic Journey

Doctoral Project

Jasmijn Lootens, PhD in the Arts

In this research project, the immediate connection between the cellist and the live electronics is key. Through working on diverse electro acoustic experiments, Jasmijn focuses on the field of tension between the organic and the machine, analogue versus digital. She concentrates on two important dimensions: the expansion of the sound-noise axis and the incorporation of the newly-developed sounds and noises within various gradations of consonant and dissonant contexts. Focusing on the concept of ‘hybrid musician’, the artistic research is embedded in interdisciplinary co-creation. As an immersive kosmos, the artists will question the characteristics and boundaries of music, film and space and transform it into interdisciplinary artistic work. This research aims to be innovative in bridging different art disciplines and technological contexts.
