You want to register for the Artistic Aptitude Test in Music at LUCA Music for the Composition programme as an bachelor student. On the previous page you already found the date of the deadline for online registration for this test and the date when you are expected on campus. On this page you will find more info on what this test entails and how it will proceed.
The Artistic Aptitude Test consists of a written motivation, a portfolio and a test on campus. In addition, an orientation test for the ear-training component is organized on the same day. A few days after the deadline of the online section, the detailed schedule will be delivered via mail.
PART 1 - ONLINE
Written motivation
Upon registration, you will receive a link to the online environment where you will find instructions for this. In a short text you clarify your motivation for the chosen programme.
The composition test consists of a review, by a jury of composition teachers, of the candidate's compositional material and a detailed discussion about it between the jury and the candidate.
Portfolio
You are requested to bring a portfolio of already written works (notated, but recordings video/audio are also possible, improvisation at the piano or "work-in-progress" is also allowed). The portfolio consists of a maximum of 5 works or sketches/start-ups. The digital portfolio will be delivered in one compressed file of maximum 100 MB. Alternatively, links can be made to online platforms such as soundcloud, youtube and the like, on which content can be streamed (i.e. without the need for download).
Email your portfolio 7 days before your trial to: pieter.schuermans@luca-arts.be
PART 2 - ON CAMPUS
After reading the compositions, the jury will discuss with you your prior knowledge, creative tracks, motivation and expectations. In addition, you will take a written test that probes for music-theoretical knowledge and baggage, and harmonic prior knowledge
Motivation
A brief interview with the judges will assess your motivation and personal ambitions.
