Film Exchange

Exchange Programme

When choosing the Film programme taught at our campus Sint-Lukas Brussels, you'll learn how to make your own films with a great emphasis on finding your unique style.

Curriculum

Studying abroad is stepping out of your comfort zone and taking steps on to the path of self-creation. It means discovering and reflecting on who you are, as a person and as an artist. Living and studying abroad is therefore recommended for every artist. Meet people and use art to communicate beyond borders of any kind, and use that to reach into the world.

Brussels is a melting pot of languages, cultures and religions, is a complex but fascinating European metropolis and it is Luca School of Arts home base. Audio-visual Arts in Luca Brussels consists of Film, Animation Film and the Erasmus Mundus Programme Doc Nomads. As our campus in Brussels also houses Visual Arts (Photography, Fine Arts, Graphic Storytelling and Media and Information Design), Interior Design and Construction Technology, this is the perfect place where cross-fertilization between different media and domains in the arts is made possible. Luca School of Arts Brussels is therefore the place to be for future exchange students.

Programme for exchange students: The individuality of the student is central to our film education. We want to train idiosyncratic filmmakers who make films that communicate about the world of today with an open and committed eye. No distinction is made here between narrative fiction, documentary or experimental work. Each film is an autonomous artistic work that, both formally and substantively, is critical, inspired and in dialogue with the current art field and the professional, international arthouse and quality film.

As an exchange student, you will study within the 3rd bachelor. We therefore expect students to have acquired all the basic components of film making (script writing, film-technical skills and artistic insight, etc). Central is the own signature that the filmmaker learns to develop as an author through text and image. We aim to enable students to work in team and to become a filmmaker who is able to delegate and communicate the aspects of filmmaking within his/her film crew.  We want students to be able to create a film that meets professional standards, both technically and creatively. Our experienced staff is looking forward to welcome you in Brussels.

At LUCA we attach great importance to the quality of our courses

If the basic principle of the policy plan means that 'quality is our driving force', and that every aspect of the policy can be tested against this, then LUCA undeniably wants to develop and nurture a strong quality culture: a culture that leaves based on trust in people with talent and expertise, and which is aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.

The formal quality framework for training within LUCA was named KOPERA, which stands for: Critically Analyzing the Quality of Training with Peers in Own Direction.
For KOPERA, LUCA starts from a vision of quality care that is based on trust and aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.

During the six-year KOPERA cycle, each training course receives a panel of critical friends who examine the implementation of the quality characteristics and examine how the training contributes to the general LUCA policy.
The final element of KOPERA is the ultimate assurance of training quality. The key question is: "Does the program have a good quality culture that follows the 'plan-do-check-act' circle?"

LUCA publishes a quality sheet for each course. You can find this on the Education Quality page.
