Why should I head to Belgium to study games?
First of all: we are one of the only full master programmes in Europe that is open for a semester exchange.
Second: our aim is to coach our students in personal one-on-one sessions and team projects, and start creating a stunning portfolio. Working and learning together will make you love games even more!
During the Exchange Semester you join our Belgian students in their 3rd bachelor year. Together you will create full functional games in a wide range of application: from personal indies, to casual, education or conscious games. Always with a focus on the pure joy of gaming, and a drive to become better game designers.
Travel to LUCA campus C-mine, and find yourself challenged in the following domains:
We stimulate and educate students to create innovative games in different formats; from classic interactive board games up to VR games and beyond. We provide an enthusiast team of lecturers whom work in the game industry or apply their competence and insights from their research projects. Our mission is to personally guide students in one-on-one sessions and team projects. The final objective is to educate game designers that can create full functional games for Indie, entertainment, customers, education or other purposes. Within our 4-year master degree we offer exchange opportunities on the 3rd bachelor level.
We welcome Erasmus exchange students starting from the 3rd bachelor level.
The Autumn Semester is the most interesting period for exchange. This depending on your skill set and previous knowledge (this will be evaluated by our lecturers based on your portfolio and documents). The following courses are offered:
Our Spring Semester is only open for a limited amount of credits (22) and only for Game student profiles with a strong focus on technical coding. This Semester requires a strong Game development background (read TECH) to join the courses. Please mind we can't offer a full 30 ects program in this Semester:
A good understanding and speech of English (level B2) is required to make the most of your stay with us.
Our campus does not offer student accommodation itself. Therefore, you will have to rent a room on the private housing market for the duration of your stay. To help you in your search, please contact our student support services.
Or snoop around on this webplatform (KotatLimburg).
We always ask our own outgoing LUCA students if they wish to swop their student room with you for the Semester. Our International Officer Jan Louis can tell you more about that.
All Erasmus+ Exchange Students need to apply via the exchange application procedure of LUCA School of Arts. During your application process, you can indicate the LUCA campus of your choice and the exchange programme you wish to apply for. Notice that not all programmes are open for incoming exchange students in both semesters. An overview can be found here.
The outcome of the application can be expected within 4-6 weeks after the application deadline. Both you and your international coordinator will be informed about the result of your application by e-mail. No need to inquire about the outcome yourself.

If the basic principle of the policy plan means that 'quality is our driving force', and that every aspect of the policy can be tested against this, then LUCA undeniably wants to develop and nurture a strong quality culture: a culture that leaves based on trust in people with talent and expertise, and which is aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.
The formal quality framework for training within LUCA was named KOPERA, which stands for: Critically Analyzing the Quality of Training with Peers in Own Direction.
For KOPERA, LUCA starts from a vision of quality care that is based on trust and aimed at valuing, inspiring and improving.
During the six-year KOPERA cycle, each training course receives a panel of critical friends who examine the implementation of the quality characteristics and examine how the training contributes to the general LUCA policy.
The final element of KOPERA is the ultimate assurance of training quality. The key question is: "Does the program have a good quality culture that follows the 'plan-do-check-act' circle?"
LUCA publishes a quality sheet for each course. You can find this on the Education Quality page.
