Kristof Van Perre

Kristof Van Perre (b. 1972) works as an actor, filmmaker, educator, writer, and web developer.

He graduated in 1997 as a film director from RITCS (Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema & Sound) in Brussels. Additionally, he completed a postgraduate in Art and Culture Management at the University College Ghent in 2003, studied internet development at CEVORA in 1999, and social legislation at CVO Crescendo in Sint-Genesius-Rode. He co-founded the workshop at the Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (1996) and the daily newspaper for the Theater aan Zee festival in Ostend (1998).

After working for a few years on film sets, including with Marion Cotillard, he trained in web development. He worked for several years as a New Media and internet specialist and consultant for companies such as PWC Consulting (PriceWaterhouseCoopers), Stepstone, and IBM Global Services.

In 2004, he was invited to join the Leuven-based music theater company Braakland/ZheBilding as an actor. He performed in productions such as Immaculata, Gevoelige Mensen, and Klopterop, alongside actors like Janne Desmet, Kris Cuppens, and Sara Vertongen, under the direction of Adriaan Van Aken and Stijn Devillé. He was also responsible for the video elements in works like Dansen Drinken Betalen – Almost the Movie, Last Call (the English version of DDB), Gevoelige Mensen, Klopterop, Naast / De Verhalen die we zijn, Naast / Wish You Were Here, and Sabine, Sabine, Sabine. He also handled video captures, trailers, and photo reports. In 2011, the company won the Flemish Culture Prize for Performing Arts and the Culture Prize from the KU Leuven University of Leuven. In 2012, he was the central guest at Theater aan Zee with Braakland/ZheBilding.

From 2015, Kristof was also an ensemble member of Het Nieuwstedelijk (a merger of Braakland/ZheBilding and De Queeste) and participated in projects with Skagen and Zuidelijk Toneel. In October 2023, he performed in Ephemera by Deborah Black, Sophia Treanor, and Marie Overlie at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting on Broadway.

Between 2006 and 2010, he worked as a video director at KU Leuven, producing around 90 educational and corporate videos (both single- and multicamera), and leading video workshops for students and staff. One of his highlights was a multicamera recording of Roberto Benigni's adaptation of Divina Commedia in 2007. He also worked as a freelance videographer and photographer for companies like De Barre Weldaad, P.A.R.T.S., OPEK, and more.

He has taught Video and New Media, Film Modules, and Viewpoints at the Lemmens Institute (now LUCA Drama) and contributed to the research project Between Truth and Veracity. He also guided the video aspect of Een Lichaam, a thesis project at the Maastricht Theatre Academy.

Together with Janne Desmet and Adriaan Van Aken, he coached In de nabije toekomst zie ik mezelf in Afrika wonen (2006) and Ik heb op het punt gestaan om iets speciaals mee te maken (maar de timing was niet goed) (2007).

Currently, he is part of the coordination team at LUCA Drama, responsible for the website, social media, video captures, and photo reportages.

As an actor, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and LAMDA, with Jeff Perry, Alexandra Billings, and others from the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Los Angeles, Karen Kohlhaas from the Atlantic Theater Company, Barney O'Hanlon and Ellen Lauren from SITI (New York), and Mary Overlie at the Rose Bruford College in London, Tisch NYU, Movement Research in New York, and at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Verscio, Switzerland.

Additionally, he trained with Arne Sierens, Peter De Graef, Eric De Volder, Peter Van den Eede, Johan Knuts, Stefan Perceval, Kristien Deproost, Wim Opbrouck, Robbie Cleiren, Sam Bogaerts, and others.

In 2015, he began training with acting coach Jack Waltzer (Strasberg, Adler, and Meisner techniques) in London, Paris, and Los Angeles.

As a filmmaker, he participated in actor-directing workshops with Delia Salvi (Actor's Studio L.A. and UCLA) and audio- and video editing with editing guru Walter Murch.
