Spiegelzaal, Uilenspiegelmuseum Damme
Over several centuries, Tijl Uilenspiegel took on manifold guises, both in text and image. Few other characters emulate him, defying time like a shapeshifter like that! Anno 2024-25 second-year Illustration students at LUCA School of Arts created their own version of Tijl. The young artists each had their own approach. Sometimes the images and text fragments stay close to the old stories, sometimes Tijl takes on a fresh persona and is the trigger for inventing new characters and worlds.
This spring, the Uilenspiegel Museum will show a selection of their works in the Spiegelzaal. Expect a collection of images as colourful as Uilenspiegel himself: sketches and posters, bright cheerfulness and sombre melancholy, pencil and paint, etchings and linocuts ...
