SUMMER SCHOOL for international students Textile

Workshop

A summer school (workshop) during the first two weeks of September for international students in Textile who need to refresh their skills before the start of the academic year 2025-2026. This Summer school provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, to work more independently in the workshop at LUCA campus Ghent / Sint-Lucas, and successfully integrate essential technical skills into their master’s projects.

We advise you to follow both workshops. Workshop 1 takes place in the weaving atelier on our own campus, and workshop 2 in the city of Leopoldsburg.

Workshop 1: Loom Weaving (Max. 6 participants)

Date: 01/09/2025 – 05/09/2025 (5 working days)
Time: 9:00 – 18:00
Location: LUCA Campus Ghent / Sint-Lucas
Tutor: Lieve Decorte (www.jeudefil.be)

Content:

This hands-on workshop offers an introduction to the art of loom weaving, focusing on fundamental techniques and creative exploration.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to set up and prepare a loom for weaving.
  • Experiment with a variety of yarns and weave structures.
  • Understand and apply different weaving techniques.
  • Learn to read and interpret weave notations for independent projects.
     

Workshop 2: Machine Knitting (Max. 10 participants)

Date: 08/09/2025 – 12/09/2025 (5 working days)
Time: 10:00 – 16:00
Location: Leopoldsburg
Tutor: Janne Landuyt (www.jannelanduyt.be)

Content:

This workshop provides a deep dive into machine knitting, helping participants develop essential technical and creative skills.

Participants will:

  • Get familiar with the knitting machine and its basic functions.
  • Learn to create fundamental knitting patterns.
  • Experiment with materials, stitches, and advanced techniques.
  • Develop accurate calculations for knitting projects.

Total Price:

€ 600 (+ count on an extra € 100 (€ 64 when < 26 years) to take the train to Leopoldsburg from Ghent for the knitting workshop.)
 

This Summer School is an excellent opportunity to enhance technical proficiency and confidence before beginning the Master’s programme.
